Seventeen year old La Costa Canyon high school students Jared and Jonothan Mattson and 18 year old Adam Curry can be seen playing the "cool sounds of jazz"almost every weekend at any number of local North County coffee houses, art openings, private parties, and weddings. These gifted "young Turks" formed the Jared Mattson Trio less than a year ago. Jared and Jonathan were first introduced to music at age fourteen through after-school programs. Very quickly, they began performing publicly by age sixteen. They studied locally with musician and teacher Chris Meadors at Moonlight Music in Encinitas. As their talent developed they began studying with jazz professionals, drummer Duncan Moor and Guitarist Bob Boss. Comments made have noted that "they are way head of the musical learning curve!" Moss Lomax, their LCC band instructor is quoted as saying, "I am amazed at how good they are and the excitement they have". The boys have music in their hearts and are realizing their God given talent for music. They are already composing and writing originals and plan to attend college and pursue a career in Jazz. The Jared Mattson Trio has appeared on Local 8 News and played live on JAZZ 88.3. Next week on July 8, Jared and Jonathan will travel to San Francisco to play at a Capitol/Glaxia records premier release of another up-and-coming jazz musician, Tommy Guerrero. |
